Asian American Women Business Initiative

What is AAWBI? Asian American Women Business Initiative (AAWBI) is a demonstration project of the U.S. Department of Labor Women’s Bureau in partnership with the Women’s Business Development Center and Asian American Alliance. AAWBI is a project developed by the Women’s Bureau, DOL to empower Asian American women through knowledge and to assist in:
Starting a business
Growing an existing business
Marketing a business
Certifying as a Women, Minority and/or Disadvantaged business
Marketing to government corporations
Why AAWBI? The number of Asian American women business owners has been growing significantly. In 2004, there were approximately 419,793 Asian American women-owned businesses generating $69.7 billion in sale Due to language and cultural differences, existing and potential Asian American women business owners often lack the information on resources and services that are available through government agencies, private sector and non-profit organizations to help them grow and succeed in business and to reach their highest potentials.
