After working in the social service field for over 12 years, Kelly Evans, now owner of HomeCare Professionals Inc., decided that it was time to start her own program. Having first-hand experience navigating the sea of elder services and doing over a years worth of research, she realized the need for in-home services for the elderly and incapacitated was a huge niche that needed to be filled. HomeCare Professionals Inc. sends caregivers into the home to help individuals with the daily living activities not performed by skilled professionals such as companionship, light housekeeping, grooming assistance and grocery shopping.

"After taking the JumpStart Your Business workshop series with Sarah Shifrin, I was able to formulate my ideas and create a marketing plan for my business," says Ms. Evans. "In addition, with the help of Financial Specialist Kelly Smith, I was able to create financial projections that made receiving a small business loan from ACCION Chicago a snap! Without the help of the Women's Business Development Center, I'm sure it would have been much more difficult to realize my entrepreneurial dream."

HCP opened its doors for business in September of 2002. It services Chicago and the South Suburban area. With a little assistance from HCP, seniors in the areas are able to remain in their communities and be comfortable in their own homes.
